A West Coast Odyssey A West Coast Odyssey
(Revised Edition)
Edited & Compiled by
Gabriel, Louise & Nikolai Athiros & Mike Turner
Since 2001 Historical Media cc has produced in excess eighty issues of The Cape Odyssey tabloid. Readers were taken on a journey with fascinating and unusual stories relating to the history and heritage of the colourful Cape of Good Hope. Many of these issues were focused on the Cape’s West Coast peninsula.
Because back issues of the newspaper have become extremely difficult to obtain and have become rare collectors’ items, Historical Media cc has decided to publish some of the articles in a more durable format. It would indeed be very sad if these stories of the Cape disappeared into obscurity. It is hoped that this volume, dedicated to the West Coast Peninsula, will provide pleasurable and interesting reading, and preserve these tales for posterity.

West Coast Fossil Park Five million years ago the Cape west coast was very different from what it is today with a wide range of now extinct animals living in riverine forests, wooded savanna, the adjacent sea and on offshore islands. Phosphate mining operations at Langebaanweg uncovered one of the richest fossil sites in the world.
